What I am loving the most about The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar… it’s all about the whisky. All marketing, branding and advertisements are removed from the experience, so it’s just you and the whisky. It’s really bringing me back to the whole reason I got into this “hobby”, to enjoy some amazing whisky while playing with my toys.

Day 06 Samaroli Glenallachie 8yr
This sure was a fun one, and really belongs in the delicate and delicious category. The nose was sweet like candy with some slight spices that came through on the palate. A good example that a good whisky doesn’t have to overwhelm your senses. Sometimes a soft and delicate dram is just what the doctor ordered. Wait… What doctor?

Day 07 Ainneamh “The Malt” 12yr
A wonderful blend of Sherry Cask whiskies aged in both Pedro-Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. A beautiful mix of sherry and smoke make for a rich, sweet and earthy nose. The smoke really shines through on the palate.

Day 08: A.D Rattray Fettercairn 11yr
Don’t mind me, I am just going to be here nosing this one for a while. Another light colored whisky, but don’t let that fool you. This is quite delicious. The nose is a sweet coconut cream pie. And at 53.2%, it surely begs for your attention. and makes up for it with a palate of creme brûlée and caramel apple. I am looking forward to coming back to this one.

Day 09: Wemyss Malts The Hive Batch Strength
Couldn’t think of a more fitting name for this one. So much honey on the nose, mixed with some cooked fruits and spices. Pretty much all the flavors I would want around the kitchen during the holidays. Maybe I shouldn’t do these tastings while hungry.

As always, be sure to follow along both on my Instagram feed and stories, as well as Jonathan Bray over at SingleMalting to compare our notes.
