It was a great treat to be invited to the Glenmorangie Milsean Launch event in NYC in February. I only wish I would have been able to attend. I usually accept any opportunity to make it to my favorite city, but this time I just couldn’t make it happen. I was gutted. However, I was happy to receive a sample tasting kit of the Milsean since I wasn’t able to be there.
I had a great time tasting this release from their Private Edition Collection which was extra matured in re-toasted wine casks. I ended up nosing this one a good bit longer than other whiskies because it reminded me of why I got into whisky. It reminded me how many different aromas, flavors and experiences are in each glass. And this one definitely brought out some you don’t usually find.
“Milsean” is Gaelic for “Sweet Things”, and thats just was you find in this one. Hits of candy, fudge and coconut, but not in a cheap flavored whisky kind of way. The finish was nice and smooth, spicy and almost refreshing. Not what I was expecting at all. I would go into this one with an open mind. You may end up quite surprised on the other end.
